Mysuru: A one-day seminar on ‘Analytical and Molecular Techniques in the Drug Discovery Process’ was jointly organised by the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and the Department of Pharmacology of JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, recently.
The objective of the seminar was to impart the knowledge on the advanced instrumental techniques like HPTLC, HPTLC with LCMS, Gel Electrophoresis and PCR with special emphasis to their application in the drug discovery Research.
It is very much essential to learn these techniques for the researcher who involve in drug discovery process, and thus the seminar targeted the PG/Ph.D research students and teachers of Pharmacy, Medical, Ayurvedic, Dental and Science disciplines.
Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS University, Mysuru, Dr. T.M. Pramodkumar, Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru and Shahrukh Bharucha, Senior Manager, Anchrom Enterprises Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai, inaugurated the event.
Dr. Manjunatha, in his inaugural address, called upon the delegates to utilise the opportunity to update the knowledge on advanced analytical techniques and implement the same in their field of research to enhance the quality of the research output.
The chief guest of the function, Bharucha congratulated the organisers for hosting such an event on a very relevant topic.
Dr. Pramod Kumar, in his presidential remark, emphasised on the need of organising such multi-disciplinary seminars.
Dr. B.M. Gurupadayya, Organising Secretary, welcomed the guests and Dr. G.V. Pujar, Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, proposed a vote of thanks.
Akshay Charegaonkar, Director, Anchrom Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai and Shahrukh Bharucha, Senior Manager, Anchrom Enterprises Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai, delivered talks on HPTLC technique and its applications.
In their talk, they explained how HPTLC system can be utilized in the drug discovery process. They demonstrated HPTLC instrument and its applications.
In the afternoon session, Dr. P. Raghavendra Rao, Senior Research Scientist, The Himalaya Drug Company, Bengaluru, spoke on ‘Applications of Quantitative real time PCR and Gel electrophoresis in preclinical drug discovery’ and Dr. Sasi Kumar, Test Facility Management, Vipragen Bioscience Pvt. Ltd., Mysuru delivered a talk on ‘Western blotting: A tool for identifying proteins.’
Bio Rad Instruments demonstrated the instruments used for Gel electrophoresis and real time PCR techniques. They explained the applications of these instruments in the drug discovery process.
More than 350 student/ faculty delegates and research scholars from 20 different institutions in and around Mysuru had participated in the seminar.
