Session on Integrative Medicine & Effects of Music on the Brain

A day-long session on Integrative Medicine and Neuromusicology was conducted by SRIAN ENVISIONS at Ganabharathi recently.

In the morning session, the usage of Hand Gestures in the form of Mudras known as Mudra Therapy was explained by 91-year-old Prof. D. V. S. Iyer.  While the benefits of Cow Products (Panchagavyaa) was demonstrated by Dr. K. R. Vasant Kumar, the advantages of preventive cure through Wellness was highlighted by Dr. B. R. Pai of Vijay Foundation, who was also an associate in the Scientific Programme of the day.

Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar   and  Dr. Geetha Seetharam explained their experiences in judging participants for the Junior and Senior Categories under “Geeta Harshini – Kalaa Varshini” competition which tested the grammatical and lyrical knowledge of students along with the singing talent of songs composed by  the Trinity Saints – Purandara Dasa, Gopala Dasa and Tyagaraja.

In the evening session, Prof. M. A. Lakshmithathachar spoke about NeuroAcoustics which was  followed by Vocal and Veena recital by Sripad Sangli, Certified Financial PlannerCM. He was accompanied on the vocal by Dr. Anil Sangli, Consultant Neuro & Spine Surgeon.  

On the occasion, prizes were distributed to the participants of “Geeta Harshini – Kalaa Varshini”.  Nayana Nagaraja won the first prize in the Junior Category “Geeta Harshini” while Vishvesha Krishna Bhajana Mandali won the first prize in the Senior Category “Kalaa Varshini”, who efficiently showcased the life of Saint Gopala Dasa on-stage that evening.

A specially-abled but talented artiste, Sudesh Pai, displayed his musical abilities on the Key-board and on the Tabla. He was specially honoured by the chief guests of the evening.

Vidushi Rajalakshmi Sridhar compered the programme which was well received by the audience.  The session laid stress on the importance of Integrative Medicine, which is gaining ground apart from the Organisation’s main theme of “Health-Wealth-Wellness” stressing the fact that the brain can rejuvenate through positive engagement in music and by following and adopting Wellness, as part of one’s life style.
