Mysore/Mysuru: Udayagiri Police have registered a case against 17 middlemen in the sex (gender) determination and female foeticide cases that shook the State in Mandya. These 17 touts had shared the commission money among themselves.
Based on the complaint from Mysuru District Family Welfare Officer, Udayagiri Police have registered a case under IPC Section 1860 (U/S 312, 314, 315, 316) The Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act 1971 (U/S-4) against 17 agents including Shivananjegowda, Nayan Kumar and Sunanda.
Shivananjegowda, Nayan Kumar and Sunanda in a bid to make money illegally, used to determine the gender of foetus of pregnant women coming to their laboratories and also of women brought by Siddesh, Puttaraju, A.L. Sathya, Abhishek Gowda, Dhananjay Gowda and others, who acted as middlemen.
Nayan Kumar, who used to bring pregnant women to the laboratory, set up at a jaggery unit in the agricultural fields at Hadya village, Mandya district belonging to one Naveen Kumar, where the gender of the foetus were determined. If the foetus was confirmed to be a female, such women were sent to a hospital and a Ayurveda Day Care Centre in Mysuru, where the foetus were terminated and disposed off.
If the pregnant women did not want to get their foetus aborted in these places, they were sent to another hospital in Mysuru and the foetuses were being aborted without the knowledge of the doctors and hospital owner.

In his complaint, Mysuru District Family Welfare Officer has sought legal action against the accused.
