Mysuru: City’s S. Thanya, representing Jain International Residential School (JIRS), Bengaluru, at the recently held State Junior Swimming Championship-2025 at Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre in Bengaluru, won five gold medals and created two New State Records and two National-bettered Records by breaking the 2022 record and won Individual Championship Trophy in Group 1A Category. She has also been selected for Junior National-level Swimming Championship to be held at Ahmedabad later this year.
The 16-year-old Thanya created two New State Records and two National Records in 200 mts Breaststroke with a record timing of 2:40:26 (Previous State Record 2:40:53 in 2023 & Previous National Record 2:40:36 in 2022) & 400 mts Medley in 5:11:49 (Previous State Record 5:19:76 in 2023 and Previous National Record 5:11:77 in 2022). She won gold medals in 200 mts Medley (2:25:98), 800 mts Freestyle (9:20: 97) and 1500 mts Freestyle (18:00:11).
She also took part in the Senior National Swimming Championship-2025 held at Bhubaneshwar and won one silver and three bronze medals in the Open Category.
She is the daughter of S.P. Shadakshari and N. Shwetha, residents of J.P. Nagar in Mysuru. Thanya is training under Gagan Ullalmath of Jain Academy for Sporting Excellence.
