Motorists urge MCC to act
Mysore/Mysuru: A two-wheeler rider miraculously escaped getting injured when three stray cows came in front of his bike all of a sudden near Shanthala Theatre on Narayana Shastri Road on Tuesday afternoon.
The two-wheeler rider identified as Mahesh was proceeding on his bike from Shanthala Theatre side towards Devaraja Urs Road when the stray cows came in front of his bike all of the sudden. “I managed to somehow control my bike to avoid hitting the cows and myself getting injured,” Mahesh said.
The menace of stray cattle is high especially on busy roads across the city. Domestic cows are left on the roads and they move about freely hindering the movement of traffic.
Despite several warnings issued by the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to cattle owners, the stray cattle menace has continued unabated across the city. These animals are seen roaming about freely on prominent roads and streets in many residential areas causing nuisance and also posing a threat to the safety of pedestrians and motorists, particularly two-wheeler riders.
Though the MCC has issued notices, warning the cattle owners against letting their cattle to roam about on public roads, the warnings seemed to have made little impact as cattle owners still leave their animals freely on the busy roads.
A few motorists, who spoke to Star of Mysore said that stray cows are always found moving freely on Narayana Shastri Road, Dewan’s Road and Chamaraja Double Road causing problems to them.
They added that as the cows come in front of two-wheelers, the riders apply brakes suddenly resulting in the bikes skidding causing injuries to riders and damage to vehicles.
The motorists have urged the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) authorities to issue stern warning to the owners of cows who let their animals freely on busy roads and penalise them heavily if they do not abide to the warning.
