Streetlights in R.T. Nagar get power supply finally

September 9, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha inaugurated the newly established electricity connection for streetlights at Rabindranath Tagore (R.T.) Nagar, located adjacent to the Outer Ring Road.

The residential layout, comprising 2,000 sites, was developed by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) back in 2017. However, due to the absence of essential amenities, only 65 allottees have managed to construct houses, while 15 more houses are currently under construction.

In 2022, temporary power connections were provided to the existing houses. Now, all the blocks within the layout labelled A, B, C, D, and E, have been granted permanent electricity connections. This news has brought joy to site owners who are eager to begin construction, according to local residents.

In addition to electricity, locals have also appealed for a drinking water connection. In response, MP Pratap Simha mentioned that a ground-level water reservoir with a storage capacity of two lakh litres has been constructed in the layout.

“Water is supplied from the Kabini reservoir and soon, a pipeline will be installed to deliver water to the houses from a five-lakh-litre capacity overhead water tank.  MLA G.T. Devegowda has been instrumental in providing these essential amenities, and water supply is expected to commence in a few months,” he said.

To meet the electricity needs of 2,000 dwelling units, a seven MW power station is required. An estimated Rs. 24 crore has already been allocated to the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), and construction of the power station is expected to be completed within six months, further benefiting the residents, said the MP.

The local residents are happy with the permanent power supply. One resident expressed gratitude to MP Simha, saying, “Lack of electricity connection had caused significant incon-venience, leading to security concerns. Now, we can walk without fear.” Several R.T. Nagar residents, including Rajesh, Raveesh, Sripad Rao, Kiran, and others, were present at the inauguration event.
