Mysuru: Every time students sit in the examination hall, they feel anxious and nervous and the pressure is so overwhelming that they tend to forget what they have learnt, said Dr. N. N. Prahallada, former Faculty, Regional Institute of Education (RIE), NCERT, Mysuru, while addressing Class X and XII students of De Paul International Residential School, Mysuru, on the topic “Tips for writing examination” in De Paul auditorium.
The term examination was invented for the first time by American businessman and Philanthropist Henry Mischel in the late 19th century. Alfred Binet invented Tests, Robert Nevilis, an Italian, used the term Home Work, the term School was coined by Horace Mann and the father of examination was Albert Sheman Osborn, he said.
Dr. Prahallada gave the following tips for writing exam with confidence and ease:
1. Students should prepare well to face the examination; therefore proper preparation on the part of students is a must and this will build their confidence.
2. Anxiety must be removed from the mind and in a relaxed mood enter the examination hall.
3. Soon after receiving the question paper, the first thing to do is read, understand well what is being asked and how much marks it carries. The answer should be written accordingly.
4. Ensure speed and accuracy. Avoid silly mistakes to save time. Budgeting of time will go a long way in answering all the questions to score high marks.
5. Avoid thinking too much about a question.
6. Make sure to use simple language and avoid flowery language.
7. Avoid using slang words or SMS language.
8. Avoid decorating the answer sheet using blue, green and black coloured pointers.
9. Make sure your words are properly spaced out and do not squeeze ten words in the same line.
10. Lastly, revise your answers quickly.
