Mysore/Mysuru: About 255 students of the city’s Podar International Public School visited the Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute (KSTRI) at Kergalli here recently.

Speaking on the occasion, KSTRI Deputy Director H.S. Girijamba said that the Museum Curator Dr. D.C. Ramakrishnaiah explained the visiting students about the importance of every article in the Tribal Museum, which is the first-of-its-kind in Karnataka.

Pointing out that the Museum displays the heritage, artefacts, tools, crafts, traditional attire, musical instruments used by various tribal communities in the State, she said that the articles are related to culture, language, practices, traditions, traditional methods of healing (Nati Medicine), justice, food habits etc.

The Museum helps a lot in understanding tribal life and practices, besides creating awareness about tribal cultures, she added.

A documentary on tribals and their culture was also screened during the students’ visit.

Accounts Officer Bhavya, Office Superintendent Nagarathna, Librarian Mamatha, Field Researcher Dr. K.D. Dinesh, faculty members Bharath Kumar, Manoj Kumar and others were present.
