Profile: Vidu Sangeeta Katti was called ‘Wonder in Music’ by Sangeet Samrat of Hindi Cinema Naushad Saheb of Indian Cinema when she was four years of age as she was able to identify the ragas of his classic compositions. She was two years when her parents recognised her special ability of recognising ragas. Thus began her musical journey.

Sangeeta started learning Hindustani Classical Music from Pt. Sheshagiri Dandapur from Dharwad till she was eight years.  Later Pt. Chandrashekhar Puranikmath of Gadag trained her in khayal gayaki. She also learnt from Padma Bhushan Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru, a legend of the Kirana Gwalior Gharana.

Till 2017, she was under the tutelage of eminent musician Kishori Amonakr of Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. Sangeeta’s khayal presentations are a beautiful blend of the Kirana, Gwalior and Jaipur Gharanas, marked by effortless Alaap, profound Layakari with taans, and a deep exploration of raga nuances.

Sangeeta honed her skills in bhajans and Dasawani under Anantacharya Kattegeri Dasaru which resulted in presenting several albums in bhakti sangeet and light classical music. She has rendered playback for several South Indian movies, notably the movie Nagamandala.

She has composed music for numerous devotional, folk and light music albums. She has sung with maestros Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Dr. S.P. Balasubramanyam, Dr. K.J. Yesudas and Dr. Rajkumar. She has given thousands of solo concerts in Hindustani classical and light music worldwide. Her unique rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’ has garnered millions of appreciations and followers globally.
