Suspected honour killing in Periyapatna: Man surrenders after strangulating daughter

June 8, 2022

Periyapatna: In a case of suspected honour killing, a man allegedly killed his minor daughter by strangulating her and later walked into Periyapatna Police Station and surrendered before the Police.

The incident took place at a village in the taluk on Monday night. The deceased girl, who was pursuing her first year PUC was said to be in love with a boy belonging to a differed caste since two years. When the girl’s parents came to know about their daughter’s affair, a fight had taken place with the boy and the matter reached the Police Station, where the girl refused to go to her parents’ house. The Police later sent the girl to the Girls Balamandira in Mysuru.

But on May 18, the girl’s parents went to the Balamandira, gave a written undertaking and brought the girl to the house where they advised her to cut off her relationship with the boy. But that girl, who refused to end her relationship with the boy, had even tried to walk out of the house on Monday night.

Though her father tried to convince her and stop her from going, the girl refused to heed to his words and in a fit of rage, the girl’s father allegedly strangulated and killed her. He later tried to shift the body near the house of the boy, but as he was unable to do that, he disposed the body at an agricultural field, went straight to the Police Station, informed the Police about the incident and surrendered before them.
