Mysuru: A five-day Training Programme on Writing Linguistic Reports on Minor and Tribal Languages was held at Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) in city recently.

Prof. D.G. Rao, Director of CIIL, who inaugurated the workshop, called upon the young participants to make use of the skill-oriented resources provided in this training programme.

Prof. P. Perumalsamy, Professor-cum-Deputy Director of CIIL, welcomed and briefed about the objectives of the programme. Experts drawn from different Universities — Prof. Suhnu Ram Sharma and Prof. K.S. Nagaraja, both formerly of Deccan College, Pune; Prof. Yashavantha Singh, Manipur University, Imphal; Prof. Rajeshwari Maheshwaraiah,  Karnatak College,  Dharwad; Prof. G. Ravishankar, Pondicherry Institute of Linguistics and Culture, Puducherry, Prof. Sam Mohan Lal, former Professor-cum-Deputy Director’s of CIIL, besides them CIIL faculties  Prof. P. Umarani and Prof. P. Perumalsamy both Professor-cum-Deputy Directors and Dr. L. Ramamoorthy, Reader Cum Research Officer — trained the participants in various aspects of linguistics and comparative studies.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. L.R. Prem Kumar, Lecture-cum-Junior Research Officer, CIIL. About 50 participants from several Central and State Universities of India  attended the programme.
