Hanagodu: A farmer had a miraculous escape when a wild elephant attacked him after breaking the Railway track fencing line along the border of Nagarahole National Park last night. The wild elephant later overturned the tractor owned by the farmer.
The incident occurred at Konana Hosahalli along the border of Nagarahole National Park. Last night at around 8.30 pm, farmer Swamy Naik had gone to his banana plantation with his tractor. Swamy Naik is the brother of Zilla Panchayat President Katta Naik.
As Swamy Naik was driving his tractor inside his field, a tusker from the forest broke open the Railway line fencing, jumped over it and attacked him. Seeing the elephant, Swamy Naik started to run and manage to escape. In the process, he hit the Railway fencing and was injured on his chest. Somehow he managed to escape.
The enraged tusker then attacked the tractor and overturned it before getting back into the jungle. Swamy Naik reached his home by walk and got treated at a hospital.
This morning, Nagarahole Wildlife Division Range Forest Officer Surendra visited the spot.
