Mysuru, Sept. 5- To revive the diversity of greens and make them popular, Sahaja Samrudha, Hulikadu Farmers Producer Company and ICAR-JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, are jointly organising Soppu Mela, a Leafy Greens Fair, at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry in city on Sept. 6 and 7 from 10 am to 8 pm.

More than 150 varieties of greens will be on display and sale. Farmers from Kaaduhalli in H.D. Kote will bring 25 varieties of greens while women’s group from Kolagondanahalli, Kanakapura, will offer special Seegesoppu for sale along with a chance to taste Kalale Saaru meals.

From North Karnataka, Kirakasali greens and from Gokarna, Kempu Soppu will be special attractions. Visitors can relish green juices and Ragi mudde with Berekesoppu curry.

Desi rice, millets, pulses and organic products will also be available. Traditional vegetable seeds and fruit saplings will be sold, along with juice belva plants from North India.

Cooking, drawing contests

To raise awareness on once-popular greens, a cooking competition will be held on Sept. 7 at 12.30 pm. Participants should prepare either traditional or innovative dishes using different greens at home and present them at the fair. There is no entry fee for participation.
