Seminar on strategies, resources to enhance research impact held at University of Mysore

Mysore/Mysuru: Prof. A.P. Gnana Prakash, Registrar (Evaluation), University of Mysore, has opined that many State Universities face challenges that hinder their ability to conduct high-quality research.

These challenges include inadequate funding, outdated research infrastructure, limited collaboration opportunities and a lack of incentives and recognition for researchers.

He made these remarks while speaking after inaugurating a two-day seminar ‘Visibility Toolkit: Strategies and Resources for Enhancing the Impact of Your Research,’ held at the Department of Studies in Library and Information Science, Manasagangothri recently.

Prof. Gnana Prakash also expressed appreciation for the University of Mysore’s efforts to address these challenges as it has taken steps such as increasing the number of research scholarships and promoting collaboration between students and faculty from different institutes. Additionally, the University provides research training to equip students and faculty with the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct high-quality research, he said.

The Registrar noted that the University also recognises and rewards outstanding research, which helps motivate researchers to strive for excellence. He encouraged students and faculty to actively engage in research and make significant contributions to their respective fields.

Enhancing enhance visibility of research

The seminar focused on discussing various techniques to enhance the visibility of research.  Prof. Gnana Prakash emphasised the importance of research visibility for career advancement in the academic world, increasing the impact of research and promoting collaborations with other researchers.

He also explained that there are several ways to achieve research visibility, such as publishing research in high-impact journals, presenting at conferences and engaging with online communities. Prof. Gnana Prakash encouraged the participants to explore and implement these techniques to increase the visibility and impact of their research.

Prof. D. Anand of Bahadur Institute of Management Studies, who was the guest of honour, emphasised the significance of understanding strategies to increase research visibility for career growth. According to him, achieving research visibility can be challenging, especially for researchers from marginalised communities or those working in less popular areas. He divided research visibility into two parts — pre-research and post-research.

During his Presidential address, Prof. N.S. Harinarayana, Chairman of the Department of Studies in Library and Information Science, highlighted the challenges faced by researchers, including difficulties in publishing their work and understanding the complexities of quality publications. He also mentioned that research students often lack information about journal publishing, library resources and publishing jargon.

He discussed the benefits of research visibility such as recognition, impact and faster dissemination of knowledge. He also discussed the importance of preprint servers and various strategies for increasing research visibility, including publishing in high-impact journals, using social media, participating in events, creating an online presence and collaborating with other researchers using research IDs.

The event provided an excellent opportunity for the participants to gain insights and knowledge about the latest strategies and resources available for increasing research visibility.

Several distinguished faculty of the Department of Studies in Library and Information Science participated including Prof. Mallinath Kumbar, Prof. Chandrashekara, Prof. Adithya Kumari, Dr. M. Sunil Kumar, Dr. B. Niveditha and Dr. Venkatesha.
