Mysuru:  The citizens of Mysuru are a worried lot as vegetable prices continue to soar during this summer season. However, the price of beans which hovered around Rs. 100 a kilo in the past week, saw a little slump with the vegetable being sold at Rs. 80 per kg in city markets today.  

As far as the rest of the vegetables are  concerned, peas was being sold at Rs. 120-140 a kg, green chilli at Rs. 60 a kg, seeme badane at Rs. 50 a kg, carrot and Tomato Rs. 30-40 a kg and beetroot around 30 a kg.

Vendors were seen selling one bundle of coriander leaves at Rs. 20, which in normal situation would not cost more than Rs. 10.

Vegetable traders attributed the rising prices of beans and other vegetables, to the growing demand from bigger cities like Bengaluru and the fall in production owing to drought.

Also, the demand for vegetables, has increased significantly as this is the wedding seasons, they said and added that regular supplies to the city has fallen short as a number of vegetable growers are taking their produce to Bengaluru, where they get an attractive price.
