Cybercrime ACP warns public

Mysore/Mysuru: Citizens have been strongly warned against viewing or sharing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), including videos and photos, as such activity is a serious criminal offence under Indian law.

N. Sneha Raj, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Cybercrime, Mysuru, stated that any attempt to access such content is automatically flagged through the national tipline system and reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“Once flagged, the CID, along with assistance from cybercrime units, identifies the individuals involved and initiates criminal proceedings,” she said.

She emphasised that viewing illegal content through websites not only violates the Information Technology Act but also increases the likelihood of detection. “Those accessing such sites will be caught. Citizens must stay far away from such material,” she cautioned.

Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting vulnerable populations, including farmers and elderly individuals in rural areas.

These fraudsters offer money in exchange for mobile SIM cards, Aadhaar details and bank information. Using these credentials, they contact unsuspecting victims, extract OTPs and banking details and siphon off funds through online transactions.

“One SIM card can be used to trap hundreds of victims,” the ACP warned, highlighting the scale and reach of such operations.
