Vocal concerts at Nadabrahma

June 23, 2017

Sri Nadabrahma Sangeeta Sabha has organised two endowment concerts in memory of M.V. Venkatadasappa and T.V.Srinivasan memorial concerts on June 24 and 25. Apart from this, Muthaiah Bhagavatar Day will be celebrated on June 30 at the Sabha premises on JLB Road.

June 24 (Saturday) at 6 pm: As pasrt of M.V.Venkatadasappa Memorial Concert, sponsored by M.V. Ramachandra Rao, US-based Tanmayee Krishnamurthy will present a Vocal concert supported by Vidushi M.A. Jyoti on Violin and Vid. Sai Shiva Lakshmi Keshav on Mridanga.

Tanmayee, a student of Vidwan T.M Krishna, is one of the most sought-after young artistes in the Karnatak (South Indian classical music) scene today. Primarily a vocalist in the Karnatak tradition, she also has a penchant for the Bhavageete style of music, which is a form of expressionist poetry.

June 25 (Sunday) at 5.30 pm: For T.V. Srinivasan Memorial Concert, sponsored by Smt & Sri Nagarajan Srinivasan, the Bangalore Brothers M.B.Hariharan & S. Ashok will perform Vocal Duet along with B.K.Raghu on Violin, Tumkur B. Ravishankar on Mridanga and M.R.Manjunath on Ghata.

Their bond isn’t about a blood relationship; Bangalore Brothers have a bond that is equally strong, grown by long years of companionship — first as friends, then as students of the same guru and as a performing duo.

Both Hariharan and Ashok grew up in their respective homes, learning Karnatak music. Hariharan learnt vocal music from S.N. Srinivas Prasanna while Ashok took vocal lessons under R. Ramesh, D.S. Srivatsa and Vaidehi and mridangam from well-known percussionist H.S. Sudhindra. They met as high-school students. Once they found common ground in their love for music, their friendship took off.
