We must understand objective behind Science Day: Scientist

February 28, 2025

Mysuru: Stressing on the need for thoroughly understanding the objective behind National Science Day celebrations, senior Scientist at the city’s CSRTI (Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute) Dr. Thippeswamy observed that science and innovation have become the order of the day, with the world undergoing rapid technological advancement.

He was speaking at the District-level ‘Science Mela’ (Vijnana Kalikopakaranagala Mela) organised jointly by the Department of School Education and Literacy, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Mantra for Change and a CSR initiative of L&T Technology Services, as part of National Science Day at DIET premises in Vasanth Mahal, Nazarbad here this morning.

Pointing out that Science holds key for realising ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 in the true sense, Dr. Thippeswamy said that experiments and workshop are key for teaching science practically.

“Science should be taught in such a manner that students get excited about the subject. Though India has a huge population it lacked in the number of Nobel prize winners, with only 12 Indians, including half of them Non-resident Indians, getting the prize thus far. The funds meant for Science research has been left unused and researchers must use this funds judiciously in carrying out in-depth studies and research in numerous fields of Science. Everyone must understand that science has no borders or limits and studies in the subject transcend across the globe”, he said while emphasising on the need for students to develop a scientific mindset.

Noting that innovations in Science often lead to miraculous findings, he asserted that children should be taught Science in such a manner that they develop both interest and love for the subject. Science must be made interesting for everyone, he added.

Earlier, Government College of Teacher Education Principal H.N. Geethamba, who spoke after inaugurating the event, said that the Science expo has been wonderful with the display of a variety of working models.

“The expo has come up with many concepts of basic science and the Mini models displayed here have been made wonderfully. There should be logic in any matter and students should develop an attitude of questioning. Those who question and seek answers can become good Scientists”, she noted.

Continuing, Geethamba said ”There are minor scientists in schools whom we have to identify and unearth the inherent talent and creativity in them. Every child needs to have an exciting and exploring mindset. At the same time it is important that we teach intellectual aspects to every child so that they develop a questioning attitude”.

DIET Principal C.R. Nagarajaiah too spoke.

BRC Nagesh, Mohammad Rafi, DIET faculty Pushpalatha and Shobha, Mahadev and others were present.
