T. Narasipur: A woman lost her gold chain to conmen who in the guise of protecting her gold chain by wrapping it in her saree wrapped stones thus conning her.

The woman, who lost her gold chain weighing about 40 grams and worth about Rs.1.20 lakh, is Shanthamma, wife of Puribhatti Rangappa, a resident of Hale Kurubageri in the town.

On Wednesday, Shanthamma, who had gone to a shop, was returning home on the road next to the Town Hall, when two miscreants on a bike, approached her and told her not to wear gold chains in public as there is a menace of chain-snatchers in the town. The miscreants then told Shanthamma to remove the gold chain she was wearing and offered to help her wrap the chain in her saree. Believing them, Shanthamma removed her gold chain and gave it to the miscreants, who then pretended to wrap the gold chain in her saree and left the place.

After moving a little distance, Shantamma opened the knot of the saree only to find stones in it and immediately lodged a complaint with the Town Police.

It may be recalled that about a month ago, similar incident had taken place, where one T.V. Sudha lost her gold chain to miscreants.
