Great Bombay Circus comes to town

Mysuru  – Residents of city and tourists who were disappointed by the absence of a circus during last Dasara can now rejoice as the Great Bombay Circus has pegged its tent to commence the shows from Apr. 15 at the open ground behind Mysuru Zoo and near Karanji Lake in Nazarbad.

Kids on summer vacation are sure to have a gala time at the circus.

The Great Bombay Circus is returning to Mysuru after a gap of 10 years with a host of new daring acrobatic feats by the artistes from Ethiopia, Kenya and India.

The 40-day-long circus with new additions everyday will definitely entertain the audience. A huge tent has been pitched to seat about 1500 spectators.

Scenes from movies like Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Don’, Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Krrish’ and Surya’s Tamil movie ‘Seventh Sense’ are said to have been shot at this circus.

Along with international artistes, trained animals like camels, horses, dogs and birds will also display their skills.

There will be three shows daily at 1 pm, 4pm and 7pm. There will be advance booking facility and for the first time all credit and debit cards would be accepted.

K.M. Sanjeev, proprietor of the circus, speaking to Star of Mysore said that about 250 people have come out of their home town and are staying in the circus eking a living and added that the daily expenditure of the circus comes to about Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1 lakh and hence sought support from Mysureans to come in large numbers and encourage the artistes.

Background

The Grand Bombay Circus was founded by Baburao Kadam in 1920 which later got merged with Whiteway and Hind Lion Circuses of K.M. Kunhikannan in 1947 and was renamed as Great Bombay Circus which is now under the reins of K.M. Sanjeev and K.M. Dileep.

The circus will be inaugurated by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar on Apr.15 at 6.30 pm. Yaduveer Krishnadatta  Chamaraja Wadiyar, Minister Tanveer Sait, MLAs Vasu and M.K. Somashekar, Mayor M.J. Ravikumar and Corporator Vanitha Prasanna will be the chief guests.
