Mysore: Hebbal Industrial Area is slowly turning into a garbage dumping yard. Waste, garbage, construction waste and the refuse generated during weddings and other events are being carried in autorickshaws and trucks and are dumped wherever there are open grounds in the Industrial Area. If this situation continues, in a few months, the whole area could become a dumping yard, fear industrialists.
Polluted water is being released everyday into the storm water drain that runs right next to the compound of Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited near the Ring Road.
Contaminated water from industries, choultries, complexes and water tanks that have chemically mixed water are let into the storm water drain. As a result, the whole area stinks, complain industrialists.
A mound of waste is lying on HP Gas Road. Waste generated in hotels, weddings and other functions that include paper sheets, paper cups, plates, plastic bottles, waste food, and vegetables are all collected and dumped next to Preethi Granite where there is an open space. Even though the mound of waste is lying since many days, it has not been cleared.
As big trucks are parked on Hebbal Lake Road, it not only affects the flow of traffic it also ruins the cleanliness of the place. Since there is no truck terminal in the Industrial Area, trucks that come to MSIL (Mysore Sales International Limited) godown are parked by the side of the road. This not only causes problems for other vehicles but also the drivers of the trucks use roadsides as open toilets.
Even in Koorgalli Industrial Area, waste is collected from surrounding villages in trucks and autorickshaws and is being dumped in open spaces.
If authorities do not take suitable action, then the whole industrial area will turn into dumping yards. Industrialists and workers will then be exposed to communicable diseases.
Besides, this practice of dumping waste anywhere will also have an adverse impact on environment, said Mysuru Industries Association General Secretary Suresh Kumar Jain.
