31st National U-9 Open Chess: Mandya’s Shefali wins second place

A.N. Shefali of Karnataka, tied with Anupam Sreekumar (Kerala) and Rajanya Datta (WB), with 9 points from 11 rounds and finished a creditable second in the 31st National U-9 girls Chess Championship-2017 held at Gurgaon from Nov. 2 to 10, on the basis of her better tie-break score of 61 to Rajanya Datta’s 57.50.

Anupam Sreekumar of Kerala clinched the title with 9 points from nine rounds. Rajanya Datta finished third while Aashi Upadhay (Raj-7.5) finished fourth. Karnataka’s K.G.R. Anagha from Kalale, Nanjangud taluk, secured sixth place with 8 points.

Other Mysuru players, Sharadhi Shastry (7 pts-30th), Yashika Joshi (5 pts) secured the 89th places respectively.

Anupam Sreekumar (Ker)-9 points (66); 2. WCM A.N. Shefali (Kar-9-61); 3. Rajanya Datta (WB) 9-57.50; 4. Aashi Upadhay (Raj) 8.5 (59); 5. B. Rianne Netha (TN) 8.5 (52.50); 6. K.G.R. Anagha (Kar-8 points).
