Mumbai: In a crackdown on city’s drug trade, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai Police seized Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs. 10.07 crore in coordinated operations across Malad, Jogeshwari, Dadar, and Dongri on Aug. 9.
Five people have been arrested and investigators are probing whether the haul is tied to the large-scale MD unit on Mysuru’s Outer Ring Road, raided on July 26 by Mumbai Police with Mysuru City Police assistance.
According to ANC officials, the first bust came on July 28, when the Ghatkopar Unit, while patrolling Jogeshwari West, arrested a suspect carrying 504 grams of MD. His associate was caught soon after with another 518 grams. The twin arrests netted narcotics worth Rs. 2.55 crore.
On Aug. 7, acting on a tip-off, the Bandra Unit raided Pathanwadi in Malad East, arresting a man and recovering 766 grams of MD worth Rs. 1.91 crore. That same day, the Worli Unit arrested another in Dadar West, seizing 690 grams MD worth Rs. 1.72 crore.
The most significant arrest came when the Bandra Unit’s ongoing probe led to the capture of a Nigerian national in the MIDC area of Navi Mumbai. MD worth Rs. 2.56 crore was recovered and follow-up action pushed the total recovery in this case to Rs. 3.89 crore, with two arrests.
