Mysore/Mysuru: With II PUC exams set to begin from Feb. 28, Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) S. Ukesh Kumar has directed the Principals of Government PU Colleges in the district to strive towards securing overall results within top 10.

Chairing the meeting held at ZP Meeting Hall here on Thursday, Ukesh Kumar called for improvement in results compared to previous year results, which stood at 14th position. It must be ensured that the performance won’t fall below that of the previous year’s and the teachers should discharge their duties without any lacunae. With exams fast approaching, the teachers should at least aim for top 5, which may eventually end up at least within top 10.

Saying that the Government colleges should not slip below overall 40% results, he warned that the style of functioning of poor performing colleges will be brought to the notice of the Government.

“Mysuru is a popular hub of academics and is also the home town of Chief Minister, with emphasis laid on providing the required basic infrastructural facilities along with adequate grants for colleges. Accordingly, the results must be secured in the exams,” he pointed out.

Preparatory exams

Referring to the poor score of students in preparatory exams conducted for English, Economics and Political Science, at the colleges in Karya and Dasnur villages in Nanjangud and Gandhanahalli in K.R. Nagar, he sought explanation from the Principals of respective colleges. Government College at Devanur has 30 students, which has shown remarkable progress in results of preparatory exams, the ZP CEO said and advised others to take a cue.

Special classes

Apart from conducting special classes for students, progress of poor scoring students should be monitored. The parents of such students should be warned about their wards, he stressed.

Expressing his disappointment over the results of colleges in H.D. Kote, the ZP CEO advised the Principals to set the target for 100% results, which may at least help to reach 80% results. Mere teaching won’t help the students and one should aim for achieving results.

DDPU explains

DDPU Nagamma apprised the ZP CEO about measures taken for improving results this year. The Principals and Lecturers are creating awareness among students, who have scored below 20 marks in preparatory exams. Some of the Lecturers are also willing to adopt a few students, to hone their skills to achieve better results. The  Lecturers are also taking special classes at hostels too, with the only aim to score better marks.
