The 17-year-old Golfer wins both The Stroke Play Trophy and The Amateur Championship of India
Mysuru’s Vidhatri Urs, who clinched the Billoo Sethi Trophy, a symbol of supremacy in the stroke play segment on Wednesday by four shots, scored a hard-fought 2&1 win over a battling Zara Anand of Delhi to complete a splendid double at the IGU All-India Ladies Amateur Golf Championship at the Poona Club Golf Course (Pune) yesterday.
“It feels great to win the All-India title. This was one title I always wanted to win, and it feels doubly sweet to complete a double,” the 17-year-old added.
Like in the semifinals, Vidhatri got off to a flier, going 6-up after seven holes in the 36-hole finale.
Despite a mini fightback from her 15-year-old rival, who made a few clutch birdies to stay in the hunt, Vidhatri was 4-up after the first 18 holes and was playing six-under for the day.
The half-an-hour break probably seemed to have broken Vidhatri’s rhythm as the birdies soon dried up and even bogeyed the 20th hole, her first blemish on the day. Zara made a birdie on the 22nd to reduce the deficit to 2-up.
Vidhatri then had a rare double bogey on the 30th after pulling her drive into the trees, and she duly lost that hole to give Zara hopes of a comeback.
The Mysurean quickly put that blemish behind her and concentrated on the task at hand. She went 2-up when Zara dropped a shot on the 33rd hole. Both missed birdies on the 34th and Zara missed a birdie on the penultimate hole. Vidhatri then holed a tricky five-footer to save par and seal the deal.
Vidhatri Urs is the daughter of Kantharaj Urs and Ramya Urs, residents of Lakshmipuram in Mysuru.
