MCC Additional Commissioner holds preliminary meeting

Mysore/Mysuru: On the completion of 75 years of Indian Independence, a programme titled ‘Amrita Bharatige Kannadada Aarati’ is being organised at 75 places across Karnataka, disclosed Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Additional Commissioner M.J. Roopa.

Addressing a preliminary meeting held in this connection at MCC auditorium, she said ‘Amrita Bharatige Kannadada Aarati’ is being organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture on June 25.

Kannada & Culture Department Assistant Director H. Channappa, who also spoke on the occasion, disclosed that places in the Mysuru district which have a history of staging agitations during freedom struggle like Ramaswamy Circle, Subbarayanakere, Badanavalu  and Tagadur of Nanjangud taluk have been chosen to conduct this programme. The main intention of the programme is to showcase the contributions of Karnataka during the country’s struggle for freedom, he added.

Stating that four Sub-Committees have been formed to conduct the programme at four different locations and of which two places are in the city (Ramaswamy Circle and Subbarayanakere), he said that the programme will be held in four phases and the first of these will be held on June 25.

In the second phase, a programme titled ‘Horatada Neladalli Ondu Dina’ at Subbarayanakere, will be held for 15 days from                July 1 to 15. During the third phase, which will be held from Aug. 1 to 8, Divisional ‘Ratha Yatras’ will be organised at four Revenue Divisions of the State — Mysuru, Bengaluru, Kalaburagi and Belagavi, Channappa said.

Mysuru Division has eight districts and ‘Ratha Yatra’ will start from Udupi to pass through Chikkamagalur, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru and Mandya districts and reach Bengaluru on Aug. 12 where the main event will be held.

The details of proposed programmes in city will be prepared after the formation of Sub-Committees. At all the four places, the significance of the locations will be depicted by installing stone boards. Processions from four roads will meet at Ramaswamy Circle and the programme will be staged at Subbarayanakere,                                                     he explained.

Dr. M.B. Suresh, Mysore University NSS Co-ordinator, Collegiate Education Department Special Officer Anil Kumar, Mysuru Dairy Assistant Manager Shweta, Kannada and Culture Department Joint Director V.N. Mallikarjunaswamy and officials of other Departments were present at the meeting.
