Mysuru: A couple, who had attacked a jeweller and his wife with a knife on Aug. 16 and fled from the spot, have been arrested by the Vijayanagar Police.
According to the press release from the Office of the City Police Commissioner, the accused couple, on the pretext of giving an invitation for the house warming ceremony, knocked on the doors of the house of the jeweller located at KHB Colony in Hootagalli, barged inside the house and assaulted the jeweller and his wife with a knife besides trying to extort money from them before fleeing from the spot.
It may be mentioned that, Star of Mysore had published the news item titled ‘Attempt to stab jeweller on the pretext of giving invitation’ on Aug. 17.
Vijayanagar Police had registered a case and a special Police team, comprising Vijayanagar Inspector and staff was formed to nab the accused couple.
On Aug. 19, the special Police team took the accused couple into custody and subjected them to interrogation during which the accused revealed that they were addicted to online gambling and had lost lakhs of rupees besides debts mounting on them. In a bid to repay the money, the couple had planned to extort money from the jeweller.
The accused couple have been remanded to judicial custody.
