Mysuru: As part of National Consumer Day, Department of Food and Civil Supplies, in association with various other organisations, had organised an awareness programme titled ‘Service and Demonstration’ near Dufferin Clock Tower (Chikkagadiyara) here this morning.
Mysore Milk Unions Limited (MyMUL), Department of Legal Metrology, Indian Oil Corporation, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Mysore Grahakara Parishat and Department of Food and Civil Supplies had set up stalls at the spot.
Visitors were educated on usual food adulterants and ways of detection. Awareness was created on standard weights and registered stampings on them, common thickeners used in milk, detection of quality of petrol and such related topics. Details of Consumer Protection Act and Food Safety Act were also explained to the visitors.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. K. Rameshwarappa, Deputy Director, Department of Food and Civil Supplies. Applications were also received for ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme and new ration cards.
