Mysore/Mysuru: Health problems affecting older adults (senior citizens) are often neglected for various reasons, leading to serious health issues in later stages.
To address this, the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) in Mysuru has taken the initiative to diagnose and find preventive cures and remedies for these problems. One such problem is the swallowing throat problem, which can hinder the growth and nourishment of the human body and lead to weakness and poor immunity. To create awareness about swallowing throat problems, the Elder Citizens Council in Jayalakshmipuram in the city recently invited Assistant Professor Sindhusha Chandran and Junior Research Fellow Shivaranjani from AIISH to conduct a health talk.
The speakers highlighted the importance of getting tested for symptoms of the problem and taking necessary care if experiencing difficulty in normal swallowing. AIISH provides diagnosis and further management, including exercise, medical, and non-medical treatments. If diagnosed in the early stages, patients will be advised on preventive measures to maintain proper nourishment for a healthy life and immunity.
The talk was presided over by Dr. H.M. Nagaraj, President of the Elder Citizens Council, and attended by various Council members, including K.S. Krishna (Secretary), Prof. Javare Gowda (Treasurer), K.V. Ramanath (Vice-President), L.N. Achar, Latha, D. Srinivas and others.
The Council conducts health talks every month on the first Monday at 5 pm at Saraswathi Samudaya Bhavana, Elder Citizens Council, Hospital Road, Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru.
