Sir,
This refers to the news item titled “Chamundi Hill Ropeway Project shelved” in SOM dated July 7. While I welcome this move of the powers that be, I hope it will not resurface again but is cancelled, not just because of the environmental impact but because of financial impact too.
As a tax-payer, I am totally against this project as the respective governments have failed in many such projects taken up in Mysuru — Take for example the stone balustrades along the Raja Marga, the Subways near Bata Showroom on Sayyaji Rao Road and near Dasara Exhibition Grounds built with tax-payers money and now cries for their upkeep and maintenance. So why waste money on a ropeway when it is not needed? All these years millions of pilgrims and visitors have been using the Road (which by the way has no budget for its upkeep) and the steps to reach the hilltop. I have been up there several times with my family and friends who visit me in Mysuru over the years and it is an absolutely wonderful ride up (but please stop the youngsters from doing wheelies and acrobats on their two-wheelers).
The funds set aside for the Ropeway Project can be spent on the maintenance of hill roads.
I earnestly request our CM and District Minister to reduce the number of commercial stalls that is marring the beauty and architecture of Chamundeshwari Temple.
