Mysuru: Effective communication is the hallmark of good teaching, said Dr. N.N. Prahallada, former faculty, Regional Institute of Education (RIE), NCERT, Mysuru, while orienting the BEd. students of BGS BEd. College, Mysuru, on “Communication Skills” in the College auditorium recently.
He said communication is the process of passing ideas or feelings from one person to another. There are four essential components in the process of communication. They are Sender (S), Message (M), Medium (Md), and Receiver (R). The following are the six steps in the process of communication: 1) Ideation, 2) Encoding, 3) Transmission of the message, 4) Receiving the message, 5) Decoding the message, and in the final step the receiver acts or responds to the message.
The following are the three types of communication: 1) Speaking-Listening 2) Writing- Reading and 3) Visualising – Observing.
Dr. Prahallada further observed that teachers should be pro-active to encourage students instead of criticising, understand instead of judging, and initiate instead of waiting.
Every interaction with teachers is an opportunity to learn. Teachers must inform the students that the mind is not a dustbin to keep anger, hatred, and jealousy rather it is a treasure box to keep love and affection, happiness and sweet memories, he said and added every teacher is a powerful tool to communicate in a meaningful way to help students achieve laurels, he opined.
Dr. Nagaraju, Principal, BGS BEd. College, welcomed.
As many as 180 BEd. students from First and Third semester attended the orientation.
Dr. Sharmista, Faculty, proposed a vote of thanks.
