Events to mark World Environment Day celebrations in city tomorrow

Mysuru: Marking the World Environment Month (WEM), the Builders Association of India (BAI), Mysuru Centre, in collaboration with the Mysuru Builders Charitable Trust (MBCT), has lined up several programmes this month.

Addressing a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavana here yesterday, BAI Mysuru Centre Chairman J.V.R. Naidhruva said that Bengaluru-based Lake Conservationist Anand Malligavad will inaugurate the Environment Month celebrations at 6.30 pm on June 5 at MBCT Auditorium, Akkamahadevi Road (Sterling Theatre Road), Vishweshwaranagar in city. Prof. Sindhu Radhakrishna of National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru, will be the guest of honour. For details, contact Mob: 98453-17373 (V. Srinath), he said.

June 9: BAI Blue Sand Green Marathon will be held at 6 am. City Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna will inaugurate the marathon at Open Air Theatre, Manasagangothri. For details, contact Mob: 93421-84488 (M. Rathnaraj).

June 12: Saplings will be planted in several localities in and around Mysuru. [Mob: 98451-15750 – K.S. Balaji]

June 16: Drawing and painting competition for school children on the topic ‘Protection and preservation of environment’ at 10 am at MBCT Auditorium.

June 19: Workshop on use of eco-friendly home appliances and products for home-makers will take place at 10 am at MBCT Auditorium, Vishweshwaranagar. For details, call: 99455-17198 (Chandrashekar Bharadwaj).

Naidhruva has appealed to members of public to participate in the events in large numbers. BAI Vice-Chairman M. Rathnaraj, Hon. Secretary R. Raghunath, WEM Chairman B.S. Dinesh, Hon. Secretary C.D. Krishna were present during the press meet.

Also, following organisations have organised events to mark World Environment Day celebrations tomorrow (June 5):

Tree Lovers Club and VeKare Ex-Servicemen Trust, Mysuru: ‘Shramadaan’ to make Public Park and parks surrounding Vijayanagar 3rd Stage ‘C’ Block free from liquor bottles and plastics, from 7 am to 8.30 am. Sunpreet Solar Systems (P) Ltd. and Pramati Hillview Academy: Solar kitchen demonstration and conversation with experts have been organised at Pramati School auditorium, Kuvempunagar, at 11 am. Pramati Hillview Academy Secretary H.V. Rajeev will  be the chief guest. NIE-CREST Chief S. Shamasundar and KREDL Project Director D.K. Dinesh Kumar will be the special invitees. The Institution of Engineers-India (IEI), Mysuru Local Centre: A talk on the theme ‘Air Pollution’ by Alaknanda J. Adur, Co-ordinator of Sciences, Department of Environmental Science, Surana College, Bengaluru, has been organised at the Institution premises, JLB Road, at 6 pm. Dr. R. Suresh, Chairman, IEI, Mysuru, will preside. D.K. Dinesh Kumar, Hon. Secretary, IEI, Mysuru, will be present.

Dr. Alkananda J. Adur is a well-known environmentalist in Bengaluru. This talk is about the quality of the air that we breathe. Approximately 7 million people worldwide die prematurely each year from air pollution, with about 4 million of these deaths in Asia-Pacific.

She is graduated from Fergusson College, Pune and Post-Graduation from Pune University; Ph.D from Bangalore University. She received Best Excellent Researcher RULA Awards by World Research Council and United Medical Council during 2019. The talk is open to all. [Ph: 0821-2421168/ 894].
