Governor-Chancellor keen on new names for Mysore Varsity VC

July 26, 2017

Mysuru: It is a cliché to say that the wait for the 25th Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore (UoM) is getting longer. Even as hopes are raised, names of the shortlisted aspirants are announced, the process gets stuck and the delay continues.

Governor-Chancellor Vajubhai R. Vala is learnt to have sent back the names of the shortlisted candidates of UoM just as he has done in Bangalore University. He wants a new set of names and according to unverified reports, the Higher Education Department has been asked to send a new list of names.

The Search Committee headed by former VTU Vice-Chancellor Prof H.P. Kincha and three other members, former VC of Gulbarga University Prof. V.B. Coutinho, UGC member Dr V.S. Chauhan  and Central University VC Prof H.M. Maheshwariah had met in Bengaluru on July 6 to propose the names for the VC post. It is 20 days now and according to sources, it will take a few more weeks to finalise the names if the Governor insists on a new list as the Search Committee has to meet again to finalise a set of new names.

According to a former VC, the Higher Education Department has to first cross check the credentials of the aspirants before they are shortlisted and only then place it before the Search Committee. However, the Search Committee can still ask for cross verification of the antecedents of the aspirants and then only finalise the names of the aspirants.

The sources in the Higher Education Department said that they have received a letter from the Governor’s office to send a new list of names. A Syndicate Member of UoM told Star of Mysore on condition of anonymity that there is no such information in the University here about the changes in the list of the three shortlisted candidates.

However, all indications were that Chief Minister was keen on the name of Prof. C.P. Siddashrama of Institute of Kannada Studies (who was also the acting VC a couple of years ago) for the post of VC.

A Professor in the University said that this unnecessary delay in the appointment of VC is costing the University dear as no concrete decisions can be taken.  All the good work done so far during the centenary year is now being undermined, he said with a tinge of sadness.

I feel like laughing. What is the point in changing the list of names for VC?? Actually, the entire search committee should be scrapped. A new search committee should be formed. Because, if it is the same search committee, then the same story continues by selecting unwanted fellows, fellows with all sorts of background and fellows who get influence from all nook and corners. Strictly speaking the search committee should go through all the 300 bio-data properly and then arrive at a consensus. But, it looks like the search committee, even before entering the hall decide their own candidates and then pick the biodata. As a citizen of this country, I sincerely request the President of India, PM of India, HRD Minister, Governor and Chancellor of Govt of Karnataka and the CM of Govt of Karnataka to look into the matter to appoint dignified, decent and professors without any problems/complaints as vice-chancellors for Mysore and Bangalore Universities immediately. Bolo Bharat Maatha ki Jai jai jai.

Any way, my hearty congratulations to Dayanand Mane to continue for some more time as in-charge VC of Mysore University.
I feel really very happy when I see no cars OR lot of people in front of Crawford Hall.
I sincerely request the Chancellor to appoint a Mr. Clean professor as VC of Bangalore/Mysore University.
I dont want Mysore University to become another KSOU which is already in the news every day particularly in VIJAYAVANI.
If the search committee members keep on listening to Govt, UGC, and the chancellors office, to select the VC’s, then what is the point in doing all this exercise. I once again request the President of India, PM of India & the Chancellor of Govt of Karnataka to appoint proper VC’s to Mysore/Bangalore Universities.
