Dasara poster released, publicity campaign to be launched
Mysore/Mysuru: District Minister S.T. Somashekar on Saturday said that with the Government announcing a Grand Dasara fete this year, the Mysuru District Administration and the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) would be seeking funds from the State Government based on the estimates prepared with regard to the conduct of various programmes as part of the festivities.
Addressing presspersons after the Dasara Executive Committee meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office here yesterday, Somashekar said that the Palace Board would fund Rs. 5 crore towards the expenditure for Palace events.
He pointed out that the District Administration and the MCC would submit estimates and seek funds accordingly based on the programmes planned for the festivities.
Asserting that it is going to be a Grand Dasara this year after two years of low key celebrations on account of COVID-19, Somashekar said a widespread publicity campaign will be launched this year to showcase Mysuru Dasara and attract visitors from across the world.
The Minister further said that the decision on the dignitary to be invited to inaugurate Dasara festivities atop Chamundi Hill will be taken by the Chief Minister.
Continuing, Somashekar said that Srirangapatna Dasara and Chamarajanagar Dasara celebrations would get a sum of Rs. 1 crore each. Three elephants have been sought for the Jamboo Savari at Srirangapatna as part of the celebrations, which the Executive Committee has agreed to.

The Dasara fortnight including the events at the Chamundi Hill, was built around Wadiyars’ Durbar, which itself was a hangover from the Mughal’s period-one reads about Akbar’s Durbar and Tansen ‘s music there.
There was some grandeur, I would say residual grandeur during 1950s and Mid-1960s when JC Wadiyar indulged in the Durbar which looked nonsensical as He was no longer a Royal, Sirdar Patel determined that by abolishing the Royalty.
Since then, successive state governments, realising that minister can make make money out of awarding contracts for Dasara events, converted in to ‘Nada Habba’ , a nonsense, it was not any such thing. This is just an even outdated which allows the ministers the opportunity to grab as much money as they can making Mysoreans -they are not that many native Mysoreans-most residents here are non Mysoreans, thanks to the cheap IT techie work, sucking in Northies, Tamils, Keralites and Andhrudus, while native Mysoreamns leave the city in disgust.
Only journalists like Gouri Sathya , looking to write a book ,yes, to make money, attaches any importance to this city which has degenerated into another Bangalore or worse.
Looking at the photograph, they look like the criminals’ gallery in a police station. The talk of Grand Dasara is nonsense, they have to say this, as they know that they have to make money for themselves, before their political life comes to an end.
When I visited Mysore, 2 decades ago, even then it did not look like the city where I was born, brought up, got educated and worked for a while. Full of car culture, pollution, no resemblance footpaths ,hundreds of private hospitals, every doctor a MD, thanks to the caste-based reservation quota which made them enter medical colleges, or by paying lakhs to get in place. No , merit system at all. The hospitals numbers are very high but the quality of treatment very poor. A cesspool, this city has become.
