Mysore/Mysuru: In a joint operation, the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department officials along with Narasimharaja (NR) Police, have seized Anna Bhagya scheme rice, which was being transported to black market in a goods vehicle. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested.
The accused has been identified as Atiq. In all 110 rice bags weighing 53 quintals have been seized. Acting on the complaint of Food Inspector M.S. Vinod Kumar, NR Police have registered a case.
On Sunday afternoon, NR Police Station Intelligence staff K.B. Manju, informed the officials of the Food Department about rice bags laden goods vehicle moving on the mud road in Kesare Revenue Layout.
The Food Department Assistant Director, informed Food Inspector Vinod Kumar over phone.
Vinod Kumar, along with other officials rushed to the spot and with the help of NR Police, seized the rice and the goods vehicle, besides taking driver Atiq into custody. The Anna Bhagya rice was being purchased from beneficiaries at Hale Kesare, Kamanakerehundi and other places and was being sold in black market for higher prices.
