Intensify drive against all traffic violations

January 16, 2018

Sir,

Apropos the news item “Helmet Drive Intensified” (SOM dated Jan. 3) it gives an impression to the public that the only traffic violation by the two-wheelers are using non-ISI marked helmets.

Two-wheelers indulge in so many traffic violations like signal jumping, triple riding, riding vehicles with blank registration number plate, violating one-way rule — the list is endless.

Instead of concentrating only on helmets under “Operation Safe Drive,”  Traffic Police should also check for other violations by the two-wheelers,  which can cause damage to other rule-abiding motorists.

The root cause for using the non-ISI marked helmets are its availability at a cheaper rate in the market. All government machinery should work in tandem and ensure that these substandard helmets are not manufactured. As long as manufacturers produce substandard helmets, their dealers will continue to sell the same.

I’ve seen few police wearing half helmet while riding 2 wheeler. unfortunately there is nobody to put fine on these people.
I think it could have been more meaningful to public, if Govt. has come up with some exchange offer to there old helmets to standard helmet with some price difference.
