Mysuru: Claiming that the Israeli model of agriculture, which the Government proposes to introduce, will not suit the State, KRRS (Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha) leader Badagalapura Nagendra has said that it was better for the Government to follow Andhra Pradesh’s ‘Zero Budget Natural Farming’ policy. Addressing press persons at Jaladrashini Guest House here yesterday, he said that the Israeli model was complex and it would be a burden on the farmers as it involved too many processes. As such, it would be better if Karnataka follows the AP model of agriculture, he remarked.
Hitting out at the Cauvery River Water Authority (CRWA) for ordering Karnataka to release 34 TMC of water to TN, he said that the constitution of the Authority itself was flawed as it had no water experts, scientists on board.
Accusing the Centre of constituting the Authority in haste, the farmer leader said that the State would not tolerate any injustice on Cauvery water issue.
Pointing out that late MLA and farmer leader K.S. Puttannaiah had raised the Cauvery issue with the Centre earlier, when he (Puttannaiah) had warned against the constitution of the Authority, Nagendra said that the Authority cannot issue directions on its will. He also urged the Centre to scrap the Authority and form a new one with persons having vast knowledge of water and farming practises.
KRRS office-bearers Hosakote Basavaraj, Ashwath Narayan Raje Urs, Lokesh Raje Urs and Marankaiah were present.
