A Maths Lab to kindle students’ interest in the world of numbers has been established at a Government School in city.
Under the concept of ‘Do and Learn and See and Learn,’ the teachers of Government Higher Primary School, Bodyguard Line, Kurubarahalli, ably helped by the like-minded locals, have established a Maths Lab, to give impetus to encourage skill-based learning among the children.
Apart from the Maths Lab, the school boasts of other labs related to Kannada and English and Nali-Kali, exclusive activity room, evolving as a hub of activity based learning, without compromising on imparting quality education.

At Maths Lab here, the students are taught about how the learning of Maths opens the world of opportunities, for being the foundation for all the Sciences.
What makes it unique is being the only Maths Lab among all the 31 Government schools in the jurisdiction of South Zone.

The lab that took shape as envisioned by Maths teacher K.N. Harsha, is helpful to the students in learning Maths on the basis of 48 charts on several topics like Samathala (Equilibrium), Lamba (Length), Male Mapaka (Rain Gauge), Sankya Rekhe (Numerical Lines), Chedaka Rekhe (Intersecting Lines), Tribuja (Triangle), Chowka (Square), Suttalathe (Circumference), Vistheerna Stambalekha (Width), Bhoomia Dhruva Pradesha Chappate Eke? (Why Polar Region on Earth is Flat?), Prakruthiyalli Ganita (Maths in Nature), Prani Pakshigalalli Ganitha (Maths in Animals and Birds), Dharmikatheyalli Ganitha (Maths in Religion), Hoovinalli Ganitha (Maths in Flowers), Bahyakashadalli Ganitha (Maths in Space).
The students here represent various States and classes, like the inmates of Government Girls Home (Balamandira), migrants and the children of labourers and other language children, creating a better learning atmosphere for the students.

The Food Chain, Water Cycle, making of Full Moon Flip Book, Distribution of Life Cycle and several other interesting topics, all-encompassing Maths, are taught here.
Apart from spending money from their own pockets, the teachers set up the lab, with help from Puneeth Rayanna of Alumni Association and the officials of School Education and Literacy Department.

K.N. Harsha, the Maths teacher, who is also the President of South Zone Teachers Association, said that the Learning Models have been prepared using paper and plastic items, spending about Rs. 25,000. The Lab is proving effective in teaching the students to learn through experiments.
Maths is hidden in all the natural elements, like one can learn Rekha Ganitha through flower petals. While the longevity of a tree can be gauged with the help of its thogate (bark or exterior of the tree). If Maths is applied in daily life, it provides a beautiful experience. Those having a better knowledge of Maths, can feel all the matters simple. The children are being taught Maths and other subjects, through experiments and skill-based teaching, in compliance with the syllabus.

School Head Mistress Ambuja said, earlier the student strength from Class 1 to 7 was low. In the last few years, there is an increase in the number of students strength, with the parents and local residents of Kurubarahalli, having a good opinion about the school.

MLA T.S. Srivatsa, who lauded the very initiative of making learning of Maths joyful for the students, said that, on account of the birth anniversary of renowned Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan on Dec. 22, 2024, which is observed as National Maths Day across the country, a photo frame of Ramanujan, along with the information on his enormous achievements, was distributed among the students of all the 31 Government Schools in Krishnaraja (KR) Constituency.
