Mysuru: MLA Vasu announced a prize of Rs. 25,000 for maintaining a clean campus as part of the third anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. This is launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the mission ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ an accelerated Jan-Andolan for sanitation, a nationwide launch by President Ram Nath Kovind, yesterday at Ishwariganj village near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The MLA made this announcement, while inaugurating the Swachh Gangothri Abhiyan at the Manasagangothri campus here this morning. He said that the Gangothri campus was one of the most beautiful campuses in the country on par with the best of them in any other universities including the Indian Institute of Science and IITs. However, he pointed out that there was a lot of wastage and garbage found near the Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Microbiology Departments during his morning walks, which needed to be cleaned on a regular basis.
Mayor M.J. Ravikumar called upon the students and the people to help keep the city clean to regain the top spot after slipping to the fifth place. Earlier, University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dayananda Mane inaugurated the cleanliness drive by planting saplings.
Corporation Commissioner G. Jagadeesha asked the people to segregate the waste by putting the dry waste in blue dustbins and wet waste in green ones. He also read out a oath. Nearly 1,500 students had gathered near the Folklore Museum.
