Sir,
Further to the letter by Varadaraju on the plight of Srirampura main road (SOM dated Feb. 19), I would like to add a few points. The entire stretch of the road is approximately 1.5 to 1.8 kms. Though the road laying work was started 9 months back, the road was in a pathetic condition since past two years and on a few occasion some readers including me had written letters in these column but no action was initiated by the authorities concerned.
The road laying work is taken up in bits and pieces which has resulted in poor quality work. The entire width of the road is laid at some stretches and at some places the road laying work is incomplete resulting in the road not being completely usable. The level of the road surface laid is also not uniform. By the time the road is complete in all aspect for public use the portion of the road laid earlier is bound to get damaged and as mentioned in the earlier letter the gravel layer spread over the road is already giving out.
The authorities also need to look into the cross roads on either side of the main road in question for road laying work to ensure that the public living in this area can move around comfortably. Added to this the footpath work being carried out on either side of the road is left to the almighty as the work progress is so slow that we may not be able to see the completion in the near future.
I am really surprised that in this era of modern technology the MUDA authorities are taking their own sweet time to complete the road laying work with right quality.
I request the authorities to depute appropriate engineers to oversee the completion of the road laying work with high quality, taking into consideration the cross roads and the footpath work at the earliest.
