Countdown begins
The countdown to the second Mysuru Literary Fest-2018 organised by Mysore Literary Association (MLA) has begun with the Fest being held on Aug.12 at Senate Bhavan in Manasagangothri campus.
Star of Mysore is profiling some of the leading names in various fields who are the panellists participating in the day-long session.
The two panellists who are being featured today (Aug.10) are Prof. G.N. Devy and Prof. V.K. Natraj. Prof. G.N. Devy will speak on “Mobs, Mobiles and Declining Diversity” while Prof. V.K. Natraj on “Equity through discrimination: India’s Quest.”
Prof. G.N. Devy
Prof. G. N. Devy writes in three languages, Marathi, Gujarati and English. He has authored nearly 20 books including After Amnesia, In Another Tongue, A Nomad Called Thief, Of Many Heroes, Indian Literary Criticism, Painted Words and The Crisis Within Knowledge. In addition, he is the Chief Editor of the People’s Linguistic Survey of India, which has 50 volumes in it.
Formerly Professor of Humanities at the DAIICT and Professor of English at the M. S. University of Baroda, Devy is currently Chairman, The People’s Linguistic Survey of India and Honorary Professor at the CMDR, Dharwad.
He is leading the Dakshinayana movement of writers.
He was educated at Shivaji University and the University of Leeds.
Devy founded two institutions: a) the Adivasi Academy for Indegnous Studies and b) the Bhasha Centre for Language Conservation, both recognized as Centres of Excellence.
He received a number of Fellowships such as the Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship, 1994-96; Fulbright Fellowship, 1992, T H B Symons Fellowship, 1991, Commonwealth Academic Exchange Fellowship, 1986 and the Rotary Foundation Fellowship, 1978 besides he has received numerous awards including the Padma Shree.
Prof. V.K.Natraj
Prof. V.K.Natraj was educated at Maharaja’s College, Mysuru (M.A. in Economics) and Pembroke College Oxford (M.Litt in Economics).
He has worked in University of York UK, National Institute for Training in Industrial Engineering Mumbai, Institute of Correspondence Course and Continuing Education University of Mysore and he was the Director of Institute of Development Studies, University of Mysore.
Prof. Natraj was also the Registrar, University
of Mysore and Director, Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai. He was the Director of a research study on: Delegation to Devolution: A Comparative study of Panchayat Raj in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Karnataka, MIDS Chennai.
He has been a member in some of the major committees including P.R.Nayak Committee on Decentralisation, Government of Karnataka and Co-chair of Working Group on decentralisation:Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission.
