Mysuru accounted for Rs. 13.56 crore liquor sale revenue on Dec. 31, 2024
Bengaluru/Mysuru: The Excise Department witnessed a record-breaking revenue during New Year celebrations, with liquor sales reaching staggering heights.
On Dec. 31, 2024, liquor sales by the Karnataka State Beverages Corporation (KSBC) alone generated Rs. 308 crore. This marked a significant increase from Rs. 193 crore recorded on the same day in 2023.
A total of 7,305 liquor vendors purchased beverages from Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Limited (KSBCL) on New Year’s Eve 2024. The sale of 4.83 lakh boxes of IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) accounted for Rs. 250.25 crore while 2.92 lakh boxes of beer brought in Rs. 57.75 crore. Altogether, 7.76 lakh boxes of liquor contributed to the Rs. 308 crore revenue figures.
From the liquor sold between the morning of Dec. 31 and 2 pm, the State generated Rs. 408.58 crore in revenue. This comprised Rs. 327.50 crore from 6.22 lakh boxes of IMFL and Rs. 80.58 crore from 4.04 lakh boxes of beer, representing the sale of a total of 10.27 lakh boxes of liquor.
In Mysuru city and district, the consumption figures were equally impressive. Excise officials reported the sale of 2,39,481 litres of IMFL and 1,06,208 litres of beer, generating a revenue of Rs. 11,97,40,500 and Rs. 1,59,31,200 respectively.
Within Mysuru city and Taluk, 10,260 boxes of IMFL (9-litre capacity) and 8,042 boxes of beer (8-litre capacity) were sold. Across other taluks in the district, 16,340 boxes of IMFL and 5,234 boxes of beer were consumed.
“On Dec. 31, 2024, the district collectively consumed 2,39,481 litres of IMFL and 1,06,208 litres of beer, generating a total approximate revenue of Rs. 13,56,71,700,” stated Excise Department officials.
The New Year festivities spurred a rush to purchase liquor from MSIL outlets, True Spirits, wine stores, clubs, bars, and restaurants. Large volumes of liquor and beer were sold at parties and celebrations, reflecting a demand during the year-end revelry.
