VVCE to conduct SIH-2024 — Software Edition
Mysuru: The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, is the Nodal Centre for the prestigious Smart India Hackathon (SIH – 2024) Grand Finale — Hardware Edition — scheduled from Dec. 11 to Dec. 15.
The SIH is the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, organised in association with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), to foster innovation and solve pressing national challenges through technology.
This 7th edition of SIH finals will start off simultaneously across 51 centres nationwide on Dec. 11, with a virtual inauguration by Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan.
NIE is the only institution in Karnataka to host the Hardware Edition of SIH for the second consecutive year, demonstrating its leadership in engineering education and unwavering commitment to support innovation.
This year, 28 teams comprising 168 students from across India will convene at NIE Mysuru to address cutting-edge problem statements in space technology, smart automation, robotics and drones, among others. These challenges, defined by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, Autodesk Inc., and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, aim to encourage ground-breaking solutions.
Addressing a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavan in city yesterday, Dr. Rohini Nagapadma, Principal, NIE, said, “Being selected as the Nodal Centre for the second consecutive year is an honour for our institution. Last year’s visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during SIH-2023 remains a historic milestone for NIE. Building on last year’s success, the institute is set to offer an even more enriching platform for SIH-2024.”
The local inauguration of SIH- 2024 grand finale will be held in the Diamond Jubilee Block of NIE tomorrow immediately after the national-level inauguration.
Satish Pratapneni, System Development Director, Lenovo India, will be the chief guest at the inaugural function to be held at NIE.

At VVCE
Meanwhile, Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), Mysuru, will host Smart India Hackathon-2024 — Software Edition — at its H. Kempegowda Indoor Sports Complex on Dec. 11.
Anuj Pratap Singh, Deputy Director, Software, Applied Materials India, who will be chief guest, will inaugurate the event at 8.30 am.
VVCE was selected as one of the Nodal Centres in 2023 to facilitate the SIH – Software Edition. After the successful execution of SIH in 2023, VVCE has been chosen as the Nodal Centre among 51 other centres across the country to host the 7th edition of SIH-2024.
A total of 24 teams with around 200 participants from various premier institutes will be participating in the event at VVCE. The teams will be working on innovative solutions for the various problems provided by AICTE, New Delhi and Autodesk, Inc.
Gundappa Gowda, President of Vidyavardhaka Sangha, P. Vishwanath, Secretary, Shrishaila Ramannavar, Treasurer, Parish Rao, Head of Manufacturing, Neilsoft, who is also AICTE representative, Dr. B. Sadashive Gowda, Principal, VVCE, Nodal Centre Head and Dr. Shobha Shankar, Vice-Principal, will be the guests of honour.
Dr. M.R. Pooja Professor & Head, Department of CS&E, VVCE and Nodal Centre Incharge, Dr. Nithin Kumar, Nodal Centre SPOC, staff and students of VVCE will be present at the inaugural function.
