Proposed Modern Bus Stand at Bannimantap: Points to ponder

March 14, 2025

Sir,

The proposed Mysuru Modern Bus Terminus at Bannimantap needs to be planned realistically. It  shall be  designed by approved Architects, Town Planners, Structural Engineers, Project Management Agencies,  as per IS Codes, Standard specifications and Local Bylaws.  Before the project is finalised on the drawing board, all concerned Departments like Fire Fighting, Pollution Control Board, Service agencies like Water supply, Effluent disposal,   should give their concurrence and approval. The project shall be time- bound and completed as identified by Project Management Agency.

The following steps are to be taken from the concept to completion and handing over stage to the public concerned.  If such steps are not taken, the Mysuru Bus Terminus  would become another ordinary building and not a Modern Bus Terminus.

Future Population: The Mysuru Bus Terminus shall satisfy the requirements of population as identified by Demographers till the year 2075.

Location of Hub:  Bus Terminus at Bannimantap shall become a Hub.  The Hub should be near Railway Stations, Sub-Urban Bus Stands, proposed Metro Stations or any other future movement logistics.  From any corner of city, the Hub should be approachable within a short distance.

Architectural Design: There are a number of buildings in Mysuru which have Indo-Saracenic, Gothic, Dravidian and Modern Architectural style. The modern architectural style for the proposed Bus Terminus will not spoil in any way the existing architectural styles. Even in Paris, most modern architectural style structures are there by the side of Haussmann style structures. Hence the proposed Bus Terminus need not have to be a copy of Mysore Palace elevation.  Modern architectural style can be adopted.

Roads, which radiate from the Hub to different parts of city to be identified.

Access to Civic Amenities: All amenities like markets, shopping centres, tourist  spots, offices, teaching institutions must be within easy reach.

Land Required: The land, which satisfies all requirements mentioned above may not be available. Required land should be acquired as in the case of roads and highways by legislation.

Parking Space:  Sufficient parking space for vehicles shall be provided near the Hub. The proposed Bus Terminus shall satisfy the requirements of the modern fleet of buses.

Bus Terminus must have following facilities for travellers: Display arrangements of  electronic time-table of different routes of buses to various  places; Hotels, coffee shops, drinking water facilities; sufficient number of rest rooms and toilets.

Modern shopping lounge; Clean waiting lounge for general and  A/C  Class travellers; Modern electronic ticketing system and advance booking; ATMs; Tourist Lounge; Wi-Fi in the Terminal and buses; Luggage storing facility; Stairs, lifts, escalators in view of expansion in vertical direction.

Regular cleaning: All buses shall be in tip-top condition every day before the commencement of journey; First-aid and medical facility; Landline telephone facility; Uber, Ola and Auto facility  area; Security Cell arrangements.

Satisfying the above requirements, in the Bus Terminus, the people of Mysuru will be proud of the Most Modern Bus Terminus.
