Mysore/Mysuru: Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa has called for empowerment of the specially-abled. He was speaking at the valedictory of month-long summer camp for specially-abled children organised by All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) at its campus here recently.
Pointing out that it is a matter of pride that such a premier Institute like AIISH is located in Mysuru, Cariappa said it is laudable that the faculty and staff are working in tandem to take the Institute to much greater heights.
Noting that Rangayana too has been organising summer camps for children every year at its premises, Cariappa said that, however, this summer camp of the AIISH is different as it aims to bring specially-abled children to the mainstream of society. On their part, the children too should make best use of this camp by adding something to their knowledge, he added.
Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Assistant Director K. Suresh, in his address, said that it is important to bring specially-abled children to mainstream society.
Stressing on the need for making children get more involved in sporting activities, he said the Department will consider if a demand is made for more sports facilities for special children.
The summer camp, in which 77 specially-abled children participated, featured a variety of activities such as Yoga, Handicrafts making, Wu-shu, Dance and other entertainment and recreational activities. AIISH Faculty members Prof.Sundarraj, Dr.Preeti Venkatesh, Kumuda Prakash and others were present.
