February 5, 2018

Mysuru: A 40-member delegation of officials and members of Tripunithura Municipality, Kerala, arrived in city this morning on a three day ‘Exposure Visit’ to study the steps taken by Mysore City Corporation (MCC) in Solid Waste Management which paved way for bagging the ‘Cleanest City in India’ tag twice.

The study programme commenced at the conference hall of State Institute of Urban Development at the premises of Administrative Training Institute on Lalitha Mahal Road here.

Inaugurating the programme,  Dr.N.S. Raju, HoD of Environmental Science, University of Mysore, observed that population was increasing so also the waste generation which was a perennial challenge for the local bodies and elected representatives. He hence pointed out that the concept of Refuse, Reduce, Recycle and Re-use should be effectively employed to monitor waste generation. Deciphering, Dr. Raju said Refuse usage of plastic and non-biodegradable materials, Reduce consumption to correspondingly bring down waste generation, Recycle plastic for road formation and Re-use material wherever feasible.

He added that door-to-door collection of waste was going on well in city.

The members of the delegation planted saplings at the ATI premises.

On the anvil are, a visit to MCC office to be briefed on waste management followed by a visit to Excel Treatment Plant in Vidyaranyapuram and Vani Vilas Water Works.
