UoM to start career guidance and placement cell: VC

March 3, 2019

Mysuru: Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore (UoM) Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar said that the Varsity will set up a Career Guidance and Placement Cell very shortly besides giving thrust for employment generation activities.

Speaking after inaugurating Yureka 2019 quiz competition at Yuvaraja’s College recently, he said  that the Cell will play a vital role in helping the students of different PG Departments of the University to find placement in different sectors as the contemporary job market is demanding skilled employees. Some of the required expectations are good communication skills, analytical skills, motivational skills, problem solving tactics, etc.

In view of the objectives of the job market, the Placement Cell will provide career counselling and extends both on campus and off campus employment opportunities to all the students in collaboration with various PG Departments of the University.

The students are thus helped to gain enough exposure which in turn helps them to enhance their skills and knowledge. It also helps groom the students automatically and get selected to different employment sectors in India and abroad, he said.

He said that many students of Mysuru region prefer to stay and work after completion of their Under Graduation and Post-Graduation and added that a majority of students won’t go outside Mysuru and many of them asked him to give them guest lecturers’ jobs.

“Working in such jobs for a short duration is good, but it shouldn’t continue for long time according my knowledge,” he said. The Varsity will make all honest efforts to instil confidence, motivate, train and employ them, he added.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the Varsity has also decided to conduct refresher courses and training for lecturers to improve the skills of students apart from curricular framework.
