Why photo ID, passport photo for Dasara film festival entry?

October 14, 2023

Sir,

I went to Vartha Bhavan (Department of Information and Public Relations) to purchase tickets for the film festival, but I was surprised by the procedure. They asked me to provide a photo ID and a passport photo.

Firstly, I was disappointed to find that there were no tickets or brochures available at the centre. I was told they would be available after the inauguration. In that case, why the rush to announce that tickets would be sold from October 10?

Furthermore, they issued a photo ID and only the person whose photo is on the ID is allowed entry to the theatre. This procedure poses some concerns. In a family, different people may want to watch different films based on their preferences.

By mandating a photo ID, they are restricting entry to only the person pictured. I believe a re-evaluation of this process is necessary and I hope the authorities concerned will take this into consideration.

Also, the process of booking tickets online for the Film Festival is very cumbersome and a confusing process. It is a roundabout system where no guidance is available and the system asks for many documentations starting with the Gmail account as the first step. Other film ticket booking websites are actually simpler and the process is complete within three steps including the payment gateway.

Here in the Dasara website, the ticket-booking facility actually discourages people from buying tickets. If the organisers want more people to see the films, they must make the process simpler and user-friendly.
