Mysuru: Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA) had organised ‘World Science Day for Peace and Development’ in association with NIE Institute of Technology, Mysuru, with the theme “Science for global understanding” on Nov.10. The programme was inaugurated by S.L. Ramachandra, Director, NIE. He emphasised on the attitudes of curiosity and questioning to gain the knowledge of science and technology by giving daily life examples.
The keynote address was delivered through an audio message by N. Ramanuja, Hon. Vice President, NIE. He spoke about the need for science for worldly peace and development.
Dr. K. Chidananda Gowda, former Vice-Chancellor, Kuvempu University, who presided explained the magnanimity of science and said that only 4% of the universe is observed, 23% observable, and remaining 73% is unobservable dark matter. Further he emphasised on the movement of science and technology with spirituality and humankind. He concluded by saying that the marvels of applied sciences and engineering must contribute towards the peace and development of human society.
Prof. T. Ananthapadmanabha, Principal, NIEIT, welcomed. Dr. N.V. Archana, Convener, briefed about the activities of science day.
G.S. Ramachandra, Hon. Secretary, NIE, Dr.P. Wooday Krishna, Hon. General Secretary, Seshadripuram Educational Trust, Bengaluru, Dr. H. Umesh Hebbar, Senior Principal Scientist, Head, DTS, CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru and Dr. R. Anand, Scientific officer, KSTA, were present.
Prof. M.S. Usha, HoD of CSE, NIE-IT, proposed a vote of thanks. Prof. Divya, Department of EEE and Prof. D. Rajeshwari, Department of ISE, compered.
The inauguration was followed by expert lecture sessions.
