Yoga and Ayurveda

June 22, 2018

Sir,

In the past few decades, the pattern of life of human beings has totally changed leading towards materialistic life of desire and greed. Due to this, intolerance, frustration and stress have creeped into our lives. This is where the significance of Yoga comes in.

It is a common experience of human beings that the mind and body are closely interlinked. Any disturbance in either of them is bound to affect the other.

“Yoga and Ayurveda,” the ancient Indian Life Sciences recognised this symbiotic relationship of body, mind and soul long ago and postulated the concept of Vyaadhis. However, the ancient Indian Sciences have always considered mind and soul as being supreme over matter and have based their life-style practices on this idea.

Concept of Disease in Yoga and Ayurveda is as follows:

Vyaadhi  (illness) starts in the mental-level called Aadhija Vyaadhi, born out of disharmony or stress. Ancient Sciences, Yoga and Ayurveda, say when mind is agitated during our interaction with the world at large, the physical body also follows the same. This agitation causes violent fluctuations in the flow of PRAANA in the Naadis which causes disturbances in the subtle level of food consumption, digestion and assimilation. Hormonal imbalance also in turn creates stress reactions causing autonomic and endocrine imbalances leading to diseases in the body called Aadhija Vyaadhi.

The other category of diseases such as infections and injuries come under Anadhija which is essentially physical in nature and can be tackled by modern medical system effectively.

Aadhija Vyaadhi is what today’s man is suffering in the form of Hypertension, Diabetes, Migraine, Asthama, Digestive disorders, Autoimmune disorders, Chronic skin problems etc., which are multi-dimensional. We need to tackle them not merely with physical symptomatic treatments but take a holistic approach to man’s treatment. Then only there can be a lasting remedy to our health problems of modern era.

The integrated approach of Yoga is a Holistic Science for self-healing that works on all aspects on individual, calms down the mind and attains the status of health. We all have to rethink again and again about our ‘life’ that we are living. So calm your mind and only then can you be happy always.
